BMW 850i Convertible

Roof down, the 850i changes what a fast car is for. The 4.4-litre V8 makes 523 hp and will do 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, but its best gear is eighth, at dusk, exhaust murmuring, the wind managed so well you can still talk. Carbon Black paint, four seats, xDrive underneath for when the weather turns.

This is the Batumi car above all: the corniche at golden hour, Gonio in the mirrors, the Black Sea keeping pace on your right. We deliver to the coast as readily as to Tbilisi, insurance included. Rent a BMW 850i Convertible in Georgia and plan at least one drive that ends after sunset.

Drop the roof and the 850i explains itself before it moves: a 4.4-litre TwinPower V8 with 523 hp and the low, wide stance of a grand tourer built for coastlines. xDrive all-wheel drive puts the power down cleanly — 0–100 km/h in 3.9 seconds — but the car's real talent is the unhurried, bass-heavy cruise, four seats open to the evening air. This Carbon Black example is the 2022 car: discreet in traffic, unmistakable at a kerb.

Summer in Georgia was drawn for it. The Black Sea road around Batumi, dinner in the old town with the roof stowed, a slow boulevard pass at dusk — this is a rental measured in coastline kilometres rather than destinations. And it treats the run from Tbilisi to the coast as a single relaxed afternoon.
