Gudauri is a delivery point, not a garage: we bring the car up the Georgian Military Highway, roughly 120 kilometres north of Tbilisi, and hand it over at your hotel or apartment on the slope.
Two ways work. Either we deliver the car to Gudauri and you drive it back down at the end of the trip, or you take it in Tbilisi and drive up yourself — a two-hour run that is genuinely worth doing in daylight, with Ananuri and the Zhinvali reservoir on the way.
Delivery timing depends on the pass. In deep winter the Jvari Pass can close for weather, and when it does, no car of ours or anyone else's is going over it. We watch the road and tell you honestly what is possible.
Georgia's winter tyre requirement is not a suggestion on this road, and the fine falls on the driver, not the owner. We put every car that goes up here on appropriate tyres — but it is worth knowing the rule, the named roads and the amount, and we wrote all of it down in the Journal.
An SUV is the sensible choice from December to March. We have plenty of them, and the difference on a snowed-in hotel driveway is not subtle.
Gudauri is not only a winter address. From late spring the same road is one of the best drives in the country, and paragliders replace skiers. A coupe or a convertible on the Military Highway in September is a different holiday entirely.
Delivery works year-round on request. Notice matters more than season — the car still has to come up from Tbilisi.
Yes, whenever the road is open. If the Jvari Pass is closed for weather we will say so rather than promise a delivery that cannot happen.
